Makers and Breakers: The Dual Perspective of Police-Citizen Interactions

On Monday March 2nd, CRSP was proud to host Dr. Holly Campeau for a hybrid pubic lecture on police-citizen intercations. Students, faculty, and staff joined Dr. Campeau in-person and through Zoom for a thought provoking presentation.

Dr. Campeau's research utilized interviews with both detained individuals (n=165) and frontline police officers (n=55) in three cities across three provinces in Canada. The presentation explored how both parties, police officers and citizens, involved in this key, sometimes contentious interaction, make sense of this moment and of their respective counterpart. This research deepens our understanding of people’s relationships with law and state authority, particularly from the perspective of those who have the most to lose and most to gain from criminal justice reform.

Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the lively Q&A session.
