Homelessness Podcast Mini-Series: Journey of Resilience: Stories from the Streets
Thanks to the continued support of the Brant Community Foundation and SSHRC funding, we have published a three-part mini-series podcast episode of CRSP Talk on Homelessness and Community Belonging. In each episode, guests discussed vital aspects of homelessness and belonging.
In the first episode of the mini-series, community, belonging & homelessness: Social Inclusion in mid-sized cities, guest hosts Marcus Sibley and Jessica Braimoh discuss social belonging and homelessness in mid-sized Canadian cities. An interview with Western researcher Dr. Carrie Anne Marshall and Kate's Rest founder Brian Hart is also featured.
The second episode, The ‘Hum’ of Dispossession: belongings and homelessness explores the traumatizing effects of homelessness and the ‘Hum’—the constant noise of dispossession as homeless people’s belongings are seized, stolen, and destroyed. It also features research from Nick Blomley and an interview with Connie Long conducted and recorded by Claire Shapton.
In the final episode in the mini-series, From Roots to Home: visualizing the journey through homelessness, cohosts Erin Dej and Jason Webb unpack the collaborative creation of “From Roots to Home”, an art piece born from the shared experiences of those who've known life without a stable place to call their own. Guests and CRSP advisory group members - Deborah Hill, Simon Lazanja, and Barb McPhee - weave a narrative that is as heart-wrenching as it is hopeful. Their stories imprinted onto the canvas of "From Roots to Home," mirror the resilience symbolized by a maple tree, portraying the growth from the tangled roots of hardship to the canopy of a nurturing home.
All the episodes share insights on how the collaborative process not only sheds light on the hardships faced by individuals experiencing homelessness but also sends a resounding message of hope and the possibility of transition into a life of stability and peace.
