Urbal

Urbal: Urban-Driven Innovations for Sustainable Food Systems is an international project that uses participatory research to develop and test a methodology to map the impact pathways of urban food innovations with sustainable food system dimensions. The project is a partnership between the French Agriculture Research and International Cooperation Organization (CIRAD), the Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (LCSFS) and Economia e Sostenibilità (EStà). The project is supported by the Agropolis Foundation, Fondazione Cariplo, and the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation.

Urbal’s research will provide a methodology for practitioners, funders and policymakers to improve their decision-making capacity. By engaging practitioners, researchers, and other stakeholders in participatory workshops, we understand more about impact pathways and how practitioners use innovation to bring about change.

This methodology is being developed and tested in eight Urban Food Innovation Labs (UFILs) located in: Baltimore, Brasilia, Berlin, Cape Town, Hanoi, Milan, Montpellier and Rabat.

The guide on how to use the Urbal process is now available on both the Urbal website and YouTube
