Agroecology offers both a vision and a practice for transforming food systems toward resilience, equity, and sustainability.
Hosted by the Food Learning and Growing (FLOW) Partnership, with support from the UNESCO Chair on Food, Biodiversity and Sustainability Studies, the Agroecology in Action: Stories of Resilient Food Systems webinar brought together researchers and practitioners from around the world to explore how agroecology serves as a cornerstone for building resilient regional food systems. Speakers shared stories from Mexico, Kenya, Sri Lanka, and the Northwest Territories (Canada), highlighting how the agroecology movement is taking shape in their regions and offering perspectives and strategies for advancing agroecological approaches more broadly. The session also featured Liesa Nieskens, an advisor with the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) project on Resilient Rural Areas, who connected stories and insights across regions to uncover how shared enablers, such as Indigenous and local knowledge systems, participatory governance, and supportive policy, strengthen agroecology and resilience globally.
