Find Your Teaching Community at Laurier

Originally published August 7, 2026

You’re not teaching alone

As the fall term approaches and preparations ramp up, it is also an opportunity to connect with colleagues, exchange ideas, and strengthen the relationships that support great teaching. A vibrant teaching community helps us navigate challenges, celebrate successes and continually grow as educators.

Laurier’s Teaching Excellence and Innovation (TEI) team helps foster those connections by providing pedagogical expertise and collegial supports across teaching disciplines and contexts to foster a community of reflective, effective, and scholarly educators. As your “backstage resource,” TEI can help you respond to contemporary teaching challenges and explore new opportunities for academic success.

TEI provides foundational and responsive professional teaching programming for educators across career stages and roles, including all faculty, graduate students and staff with teaching responsibilities. Through one-on-one consults, workshops and events, digital resources, and faculty learning communities, TEI has multiple pathways to engage in our teaching community and enhance your teaching practice on a range of topics including:

  • Designing courses, assessments, and rubrics
  • Developing instructional skills for impactful learning and student engagement
  • Approaching assessments with academic integrity in the context of generative AI
  • Integrating inclusive and accessible pedagogical approaches
  • Preparing for large class and first-year teaching
  • Managing difficult discussions in the classroom
  • Teaching dossier development for award nomination or tenure and promotion
