European Research Stream (VMCE)
VERiS director, Dr. Manuel Riemer, is leading this stream, which is continuing the tradition of the original Viessmann research centre. We are currently engaged in a variety of projects with colleagues at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany. The focus in this work is on equity in digital municipal engagement of residents in Open Innovation and SMART city processes. We are also collaborating with colleagues at the University of Sussex in Great Britain on research related to youth climate justice activism. Another important aspect of our work with European partners is our work with MARC, which is co-led by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability World Secretariat, Bonn, Germany.
Previous research within this stream included a project with Critical Concrete, which developed an in-depth, socio-ecological understanding of the transformative potential of urban just sustainability projects in the area of affordable housing, using an in-depth case study focused on exploring how participatory co-production projects can address ecological and social needs. This project was led by former VERiS fellow Dr. Bianca Dreyer.
