Laurier's Centre for Women in Science (WinS) is active in promoting women in science, and in producing events to raise the profile of women in science.

WinS also participates in community events, teaching kids about science.

Past Events

Some of the highlights of our past events include:

  • #DistractinglyHonest: An interactive photo-research exhibit on sexism in science.
  • International Day of Women and Girls in Science: Laurier students attended a UN celebration of the first International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
  • NASA Mars event launch: WinS celebrated the launch of NASA’s MAVEN Mission to Mars! Our WinS director and outreach coordinator were inside the Kennedy Space Centre and shared the experience live on Twitter.
  • Discovery Square: A community event for children in Kitchener.
  • WinS launch reception: Melissa Franklin, chair of Physics at Harvard University, co-discoverer of the top quark, and the first female tenured faculty member in Physics at Harvard, delivered greetings and inspiration at our launch event in 2012.
