On June 5th, 2025, The Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems was invited to take part in the Brantford Food Security Forum – a half-day event focused on shifting the conversation around food security to include the entire local food system, from the soil to the table.
We were honoured to kick off the forum with a panel discussion titled “Sharing Knowledge and Experiences: Policy – Action, and Future Planning.” Dr. Laine Young and Jie-Soo Park from our Centre were joined by Doug Jones (Waterloo Region Community Garden Network) and Angela Demarse (Laurier Students' Public Interest Research Group) to talk about community-driven solutions to food insecurity.
The panel explored how sustainable food policies can support local initiatives rooted in agency and social justice, and emphasized the power of collaboration across sectors. Thanks to the organizers for hosting this important event and for starting conversations that we hope will lead to real, lasting change in our local food systems.
