On Thursday, November 21, 2024 students gathered at Lazaridis Hall for a market-style event exploring how climate change impacts local and traditional foodways around the world. Hosted during International Education Week, this event was organized by Enactus Laurier in collaboration with the Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (LCSFS) and Laurier International.
Students had the opportunity to sample diverse international and cultural foods from local KW vendors, including ChocoSol’s chocolate, Tamale Girl’s tamales, and Cedar Spoon Catering’s bannock sliders. They also engaged with various campus and community organizations, such as LCSFS, LSPIRG, and the Waterloo Region Community Garden Network, to learn about sustainability initiatives.
At the LCSFS booth, students shared their ideas on sustainable food systems, contributed to a collaborative sticky-note board, and explored research handouts.
The event connected students with local and global opportunities to take action in sustainable foodsystems while celebrating the cultural significance of food. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event a success!
