On December 11, 2024 the Food Systems Roundtable of Waterloo Region and the Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (LCSFS) hosted a community engagement event at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, bringing together 40 representatives from 20 local food and community organizations.
The evening fostered meaningful dialogue on current food initiatives, challenges, and opportunities in the region. A “pass the mic” session allowed each attendee to introduce themselves, their organization, and the projects they are working on. Participants then engaged in networking and interactive discussions, responding to key questions such as:
The event highlighted the ongoing work happening across the region around food justice and food security, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and policy support in strengthening local food production. Attendees appreciated the chance to connect, share ideas, and build on collective efforts to create a more sustainable and just food system.
