Gore Mutual Foundation Partners with VERiS and SDC to Create a Climate Justice Resilience Strategy
People who live in precarious housing, face the threat of eviction, or are otherwise at risk of becoming homeless are more vulnerable to the impacts of extreme weather. This includes people with disabilities and low-income seniors.
Thanks to the support of Gore Mutual Foundation, Laurier's Viessmann Centre for Engagement and Research in Sustainability (VERiS) is partnering with the Social Development Centre Waterloo Region (SDC) to co-create a community-led climate justice resilience strategy with and for people at risk of becoming homeless. Efforts to combat the effects of climate change must be equitable and accessible for all.
Members of SDC's Lived Expertise Consultant Group will co-lead this project and solicit broad input from the local community. Their goal is to foster climate action from the ground up, including an extreme weather homelessness response plan.
