Laurier graduates honoured on the CPA Gold Medal Wall of Fame
Thanks to the ongoing support of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. We are proud to celebrate our Gold Medalists on the CPA Gold Medal Wall of Fame located at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Laurier graduates have achieved some of the highest standings in the CPA and predecessor professional examinations. Laurier’s exceptional strength in accounting is reflected in the fact that the annual enrolment in our new Graduate Diploma in Accounting of approximately 250 students per year makes it one of the largest programs of this type in Canada. As well, Laurier has produced 10 gold medal winners from 1993 – 2017, more than any other university in Ontario during that period.
Laurier’s success on the CFE has continued, with two graduates named to the CFE National Honour Roll in 2017:
- Jesse Armel with KPMG LLP in Toronto
- Andrew Johnston with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Waterloo
This follows a very successful 2016 with four graduates on the CFE National Honour Roll:
- Cecilia Doucette with BDO Canada LLP, Toronto
- Skylar Rushton with KPMG LLP, Toronto
- Erin Vanderstoep with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Waterloo
- Ainslie Waghorn with Collins Barrow LLP, Windsor
The success on professional accounting examinations stems from Laurier’s Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, one of the largest and most selective business schools in Canada. With over 6,000 students, the Lazaridis School boasts Canada’s only combined business and economics program, and it has produced some of Canada’s top business leaders.
Lazaridis School of Business and Economics faculty publish accounting related academic journal articles not just in accounting, but also in cross-discipline areas, through collaboration with non-accounting faculty. For example, Laurier accounting faculty have had seventy-six recent instances of cross-disciplinary research including 47 since the start of 2010. This work includes cross-disciplinary publications relating to psychology/organizational behaviour, governance, ethics, finance, strategy, information management, production and marketing.
